Max Language Solutions is often approached by customers asking to localize their smartphone user interface, on screen display and various application strings. We have considerable experience in localization and our experts are knowledgeable with the styleguides of the major important software providers and apply them while localizing mobile applications, OSD, user interfaces and other smartphone features to ensure the best user experience and convenience while using the products.
The challenges behind localization are a number of tags, and a translator should know what should be translated and what should not be touched to ensure that the developers are able to integrate the application strings as necessary. What is also important is country-specific date and time format, measurement units, use of personal names and locations in templates, style and character limit. The latter is important for OSD, as one should ensure that all the buttons fit in the screen and are not truncated. This is sometimes a real problem as words in some languages are longer than in other languages, so the text should be shortened in a way that it is understandable for the user.
Our team regularly receives localization projects and delivers high volume of quality localizations. Most of our localization projects were performed in the following CAT tools: Passolo 2009, Trados Tageditor, Memsource, MateCAT, Transit NTX, as well as proprietary server-based applications. In particular, one of our large smartphone localization projects included about 10,000 words in total in a proprietary server-based application – both translation and proofreading.
